Mortise locks are characterized by a slot (mortise) cut into the edge of the door, which houses the lock mechanism. This is covered by a plate which conceals the slot, and which houses the latch, sometimes a deadbolt, and sometimes lock controls, such as buttons, levers or paddles.

Mortise locks require special tooling, techniques and experience for proper installation and/or repair. Baker Lock and Door has been in the business of installation and  maintenance of these beautiful mechanisms for many years. Baldwin Mortise Locks are widely accepted as the finest  example of residential locksets available today, and are to be found on many of the finest homes in the country.
